The SUV market in India is on the rise. With a burgeoning middle class and increased purchasing power of the urban population, it is essential to note that many renowned international and domestic car manufacturers have launched SUVs, a common acronym for Sports Utility Vehicles. These vehicles are ideal for off-road use and can also deliver the bang for your buck. However, the question remains: which ones should keep an eye out for?
We have created a list of three such SUVs which we feel you should wait and watch for.
The Nexon is said to be the next big launch of the homegrown giant. The Nexon is a belated entry by Tata into the subcompact or the sub-4 metre vehicle category as well. Also in the new SUV will be the more aggressive design language from Tata Motors and the two-tone design made first made popular by the Vitara Brezza. The Nexon will be powered by the 1.2-litre turbo petrol Revotron 4-cylinder engine as well as the 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine. A variable geometry turbo belting out 90bhp is also expected. The Nexon will also feature a new interior design language for the major.
Also on board are new interiors with the dashboard-mounted infotainment screen, somewhat similar to the Audi vehicles, set to be the centerpiece of attraction. With the new drive mode knob like the Hexa, we also expect a spacious 5 seater with a large boot. Rs 6.5-9.5 lakh with an estimated launch window of November or December 2017.
The price will be a handsome Rs 6.5-9.5 lakh. The launch is sometime in November or December 2017.
The best part about this new Jeep is the fact that it will come for under Rs 20 lakhs. Jeep only came into the market in 2016, but the buyers are already aware of what it can offer. Being the global brand that Jeep is, it is also important to remember that the sheer emotional connect can sometimes be enough to sell a product. The new 2017 Jeep Compass will arrive in variants including one with a 1.4-litre petrol engine and another with a 2.0-litre diesel engine mated to a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed automatic gearbox respectively.
The new Compass also has a few basic tenets of the familiar name that Jeep is. Based on the ‘small-wide 4×4 architecture’ which is the hallmark of the Jeep Renegade, the Jeep draws its looks from a lot of other models as well. Look at the front and we see some premium SUV characteristics from the likes of the Jeep Grand Cherokee and the ubiquitous Jeep Cherokee. There is a familiar seven-slat grille as well. Also, the lower trims will have the two-wheel-drive while the more premium cars will have the four-wheel-drive with terrain response.
Expected in August.
This is the first SUV that the Czech major is bringing to India. Powered by a very refined2.0-litree diesel engine which also powers the Volkswagen Tiguan. Expect the newly designed diesel unit to develop 147 hp of maximum power besides churning out a peak torque of 300 Nm. Skoda, the Czech car manufacturer now owned by Volkswagen, is also expected to equip the new Kodiaq with a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission.
For infotainment and entertainment features, the Skoda Kodiaq will get a 6.5-inch screen, as well as Bluetooth connectivity, and Skoda SmartLink which will support Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and MirrorLink.
The price tag will be an estimated Rs 30 lakhs while the launch is expected to be in August as well.
