The appointment of the Indian cricket team’s coach has always been one of the things to watch out for. The entire nation keeps an eye on what is happening, keeping the selection procedure at the center. This time around we have had enough drama regarding the selection of the new coach which is all set to reach its culmination tonight.
The meeting is already underway at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai. The participating members of the Cricket Advisory Committee will definitely be there at the meeting. Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman are physically present in the meeting while Sachin Tendulkar, who is currently in the United Kingdom, has joined the meeting via Skype.
It is Sourav Ganguly who has confirmed that all will be aware of who is becoming the new coach of the senior Indian cricket team by today evening. So each and every cricket fan is eagerly waiting for the news to break in.
Meanwhile, the situation is pretty tight. Virender Sehwag and Ravi Shastri are leading the race to grab the hotseat. Ravi Shastri has got an upperhand in this race, thanks to the backing that he is receiving from Virat Kohli and Co. But that does not wipe out the opportunity of Sehwag becoming the next coach. So it’s quite tense as it has been stated above.
If one of these two does not end up becoming the new coach of the Indian Cricket team, the selectors have got quite a few names to choose from. Tom Moody, Lalchand Rajput, Richard Pybus, and Phil Simmons are all who will have to give an interview to the Cricket Advisory Committee. Former South African international Lance Klusner has also been kept as a stand-by choice, in case everyone fails to get the nod.
Before this, Anil Kumble was set to be retained as the coach of the team. But with reported ‘rift’ between the coach and the captain making the headlines, Anil Kumble decided to resign from his post. So despite having a pretty unmatched performance as the coach of the senior cricket team, he moved on leaving the spot vacant.
Indian Cricket Team Coach Selection: Latest Update
The coach selection process for the Indian cricket team is postponed till time unknown as Sourav Ganguly has revealed following a long meeting with the applicants. He has told coming out of the meeting, “The announcement has been put on hold. We will speak to Virat Kohli first, there is no hurry. Let him come back from America.” He further added, “Virat has not given any inputs. The CAC will go out of the picture once Virat is spoken to. The Sri Lanka tour is not the objective; long-term objectives are kept in mind. The process is concluded, nobody else will be in the reckoning.”
Praising Virat Kohli, the former Indian captain (who is also currently a part of the new committee formed by BCCI to implement Lodha reforms) has stated that Virat Kohli has stayed out of this selection procedure. He has also confirmed that the current Indian captain has stayed away from any sort of inputs regarding the selection of any particular individual for as the coach of the team.
The selection process thus lengthens further. This is because there has been no confirmed date announced by the Cricket Advisory Committee. We have to keep waiting for the time being to get any confirmation regarding that. So the long wait is becoming even longer.
