Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) has launched a new 110cc scooter in India. The new Honda Cliq is Honda’s cheapest scooter and comes for Rs 42,499. In a statement, the company said that the new automatic scooter was aimed at the urban youth who wanted to enjoy a comfortable ride with all the comforts of an automatic two-wheeler. The new scooter also borrows some design cues from the Honda Navi, which was launched last year.
The scooter will be manufactured at Honda’s facility in Tapukara, Rajasthan.
The new Honda Cliq will be rolled out in a phased manner with Rajasthan being the first state to receive it.
Honda Cliq: Under The Hood
The new scooter from Honda comes with impressive specs, besides being lightweight and more agile. A power output of 8PS will be produced from the same 110cc HET (acronym for Honda Eco Technology) engine which powers the entire 110cc scooter range. The motor is BS-4 compliant and will arrive mated to a CVT automatic transmission. Peak torque output of the engine is 9Nm @ 5,500rpm.
The scooter weighs a mere 102kg. With a fuel tank capacity of just 3.5-litre, like the Honda Navi, this is one area which could do with some improvement.
Honda Cliq: Features
The body panels have been minimized to prevent overspending on the vehicle. Also on offer is a front apron-mounted headlamp where the instrument console also rests. Honda said that the Cliq will get a wider floor board and seat. The rear steel bar grab rail has a luggage carrier option as well. One of the most sensible options is a mobile charging socket.
The Cliq has good looking 10″ steel wheels with block pattern tubeless tires derived from CEAT. These new tyres provide better grip and more traction on hostile terrain. The suspension is provided by the same spring loaded hydraulic shocks we see on other 110cc Honda scooters. Braking will be delivered via a 130mm drum.
Also on offer is a CBS or Combi Brake System which provides better, more efficient, and safe braking. The AHO (Automatic Headlamp On) option is also present which helps in eliminating the headlight switch from the console. The headlamps are always on.
At this price, it is expected that the new Honda Cliq will sell reasonably well. The scooter certainly looks more suited to the urban tastes as well. The competition will be provided by the TVS Scooty Zest.
