A new 1.oL model of the popular hatchback Datsun Redi-GO is on its way to India. After the Datsun Go and the Go Plus, this was the Japanese auto giant’s first major success in the country. Datsun, which is a subsidiary of Nissan, is planning to introduce the bigger engine model in the Redi-GO in July. There might also be the AMT (automated manual transmission) in it as well.
Datsun Redi-GO 1.0L: Under The Hood
The new car will be built on the Renault Kwid platform while the hatch design style will contrast the crossover-like looks of the Renault. Till now, the Datsun Redi-GO receives the 800cc three-cylinder engine which is capable of belting out 52bhp of power and 72Nm of torque. It comes mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.
Now, the new car will have a 1.0L naturally aspirated SCe petrol motor, the same as in the Renault Kwid, which can produce 68 PS at 5,500 rpm and 91 Nm of torque at 4,250 rpm. While it can be paired with a 5-speed manual or 5-speed Easy-R AMT in the Kwid, as far as the new Datsun Redi-GO is concerned, we must consider the possibility of a 5-speed manual gearbox initially.
When the AMT variant of the Datsun Redi-GO launches, it will be the second least expensive automatic car in India, next to only after the Tata Nano Gen X Easy Shift.
Note that this bigger and better engine will be offered exclusively on the top-model T trim. A price tag of between Rs 4 – 5 lakhs, ex-showroom, Delhi is expected as well.
The Redi-GO 1.0-litre will compete against likes of the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 initially. Some dealers have already been receiving bookings for the Redi-GO 1.0-litre, and the launch date is expected around July 19. It will boast of other features including the driver’s airbag, which comes as a standard feature. Also on board will be a keyless entry, reverse parking sensors, and Bluetooth audio system.
